Your advisor in particular can point you to medical practices or practitioners with whom others had a good experience previously. Seek out students who have already been accepted to medical school or are farther along in their journey and ask for leads. If you don't know anyone who can serve as a reference, that's ok. You can start with your own physician, even if it's to ask for a referral for another doctor or practice. Or, you can hit Google and look up doctors practicing in the fields you'd like to explore, and email them or cold-call their office directly. You can also do this if there's a particular type of medicine you'd like to observe. Doctors at teaching hospitals and those affiliated with universities will usually have their contact information available somewhere. Be resourceful. How to Start Medical Shadowing
Whether you're reaching out to a physician who has worked with other students in your school or cold-calling, you'll want to reach out with the same professionalism you'd use when contacting a future employer.

Job shadowing is a career exploration option in which students learn about a career by walking through the work day as a shadow to one of our professionals. The job shadowing experience is temporary, unpaid exposure to the workplace in a career area of interest to the student. Students witness first-hand the work environment, occupational skills in practice, the value of professional training and potential career options. By: Savvy Pre-Med Staff Based on what we can tell from limited available data, most medical schools will accept virtual shadowing and clinical hours. Huzzah! That's good news for pre-meds who have been deemed non-essential during COVID-19 but still need to accumulate hours. However, not all virtual shadowing platforms are created equal, so you'll need to carefully choose which ones you pursue. Why does this matter? Well, it wouldn't matter if you were merely reporting your hours, but you'll need to do more than that. You'll need to describe the experience in your application, write compelling stories about it, and show medical schools how much value you derived from the virtual shadowing. So, what makes a virtual shadowing experience worthwhile, and which platforms are the best? Some virtual shadowing opportunities consist of doctors talking over PowerPoint presentations. They're passive and not very immersive, meaning that you don't truly see the performance of duties or get the full picture of a doctor's job.
